Pro Tools First (and ALL versions of Pro Tools) only use AAX 64 bit plugins. If they like it, Avid hopes that you will purchase the paid version, or at least buy some plugins in the Marketplace. The point of Pro Tools First is to let people use the software for as long as they want to get a feel for it. It doesn’t matter that they are AAX 64 bit, they will not work. (Unless you bought them from the Avid Marketplace, and you probably didn’t because you can get better deals everywhere else).Įven if you own a FULL, PAID version of Pro Tools, your plugins WILL NOT work in Pro Tools First.
So, if you happen to own several plugin already, or maybe you already own the full version of Pro Tools and have 100’s of plugins that work great but you want the PT First on your laptop for some simple editing….your plugins WILL NOT work in the free version. This is NOT unique to Avid! Most companies who offer a free DAW limit what plugins can be used in them. You can use all the basic features to record and edit and mix, but if you want more options, ya gotta pay either by purchasing plugins through the Avid Marketplace, or buying the full version. So basically, PT First is like a ‘Freemium’ app. Plugins in the Avid Marketplace are often much, much more expensive, even for the same plugins you can find elsewhere. One of the biggest restrictions is that you CANNOT use third-party plugins, UNLESS they were purchased through the Avid Marketplace. Since PT First is free, there are restrictions. It is totally free, for everyone, forever. Pro Tools | First is a reduced feature version of Pro Tools. Why you can’t find your plugins in Pro Tools | First, and what plugins are compatible with Pro Tools First.
